Almost planned downtime

In a mild rush we decided to finally upgrade the operating system on the wechall mainserver, also known as box2.

The following upgrades have taken place, which are responsible for this "currently broken" List.


Currently (possibly) broken

Debian6 => Debian8
- Mailserver might choke
- Random cron redirect behaviour (sh is now dash)

PHP-5.3 => PHP-7.1
- A few bugs expected
- Graphs don't work (thx jusb3)
- Geshi is broken too
- pooltool site needs GWF update

MySQL-5.x => MySQL-5.7
- Some broken queries expected due to more strict defaults
- Score update don't work (thx jusb3)
- Some queries are very very slow?

Apache-2.2 => Apache-2.4
- LIMITED ACCESS 1+2 maybe broken
- Redirect error for wechall.net => www.wechall.net (https for some domains returns wechall)
- Various gizmore sites, pooltool, jgalaga, not accessible
- Site goes down every day due to cron job.

mod_gnutls => mod_ssl
- AuthMe chall broken
- Various gizmore sites, pooltool, jgalaga, without SSL atm
- Full cert chain wasn't sent

php_gnupg => re-installed
- Christmas Special broken
- GPG Challenge broken
- General mail sending to gpg users broken!

Challenges
- Some challenge is broken (thx Akorlith; fixed by mimicking old behaviour)
- What is your Name? is broken (thx tehron)
- Anderson Application Auditing (thx RaonSecurity)
- PHP 0815
- HOST me


I maybe will update this list to keep track of current issues.

Of course we are sorry for the inconvinience, but never touching a running system is not the way it works in the public internet.

For example it became hard to maintain the cryptographic components between the wargames and challenge sites with the mildly outdated previous OS.

The current hickups seem to be mysql and apache mpm related... more to mysql to my understanding...



We (I) will probably still fiddle here and there from time and and my excuse in advance for any inconvinience.
Backups have been made properly.

Next plan is carefully:
(EDIT: If hiccups dont go away after a recent php / worker update)
(EDIT: Still hiccups)
(EDIT: Dovecot was choking on the ssl config).. better?
(EDIT: Currently restarting apache+mysql every 4h)

Still options:

a) trying to switch some InnoDB Settings
b) moving to MariaDB
c) move to myisam

(no particular order in preferred solution)

Maybe someone has some suggestions
